FAQ

Here you’ll find the answers to all of your questions about EpicMix.

• My Facebook posts are not sharing automatically?

  Due to a change in Facebook’s log-in policies, some users are experiencing difficulty in automatically sharing their EpicMix accomplishments. Fortunately, there’s an easy fix!
  
  Note: You must access your EpicMix account via the web. Privacy settings cannot be changed on mobile devices.

  1) Go to facebook.com and ensure you are logged out.
  2) Go to the Settings page in your EpicMix account (https://www.epicmix.com/Dashboard/Settings.aspx)
  3) Click ‘Log Out’ to the right of the Facebook connection status
  4) When prompted, change your setting to ‘Private’, click ‘continue’ and then ‘ok’.
  5) Click ‘Log in’ to the right of the Facebook connection status, change your setting to ‘Share Socially’, click ‘continue’
  6) Log in to Facebook as prompted and click ‘ok’
  7) Hit the mountain!

• What is EpicMix Racing?

  This season, EpicMix is re-imagining the race experience at our mountains. At 6 of our resorts, Vail, Beaver Creek, Breck, Keystone, Heavenly and Northstar, you’ll have the opportunity to race against yourself, your friends, and even four time overall World Cup Champion and Olympic Gold Medalist Lindsey Vonn.

• How do I race?

  Simply show up to one of our six race courses, and for a small fee, have your Season Pass or Epic Day lift ticket scanned. From there you’ll be ready to race.

• How do I race against Lindsey Vonn's time?

  Lindsey Vonn will set the pace for all of EpicMix Racing and we will have race pros from each of our resorts race against Lindsey to get their own “seconds behind Lindsey.” Then, each day at each of our resorts, one of our race pros will race each EpicMix Racing course and we adjust their time to get to Lindsey’s time for the course.

• How is EpicMix Racing incorporated into my current EpicMix experience?

  Just like your vertical feet and EpicMix photos, your race results will automatically appear in your dashboard. Race results will appear on EpicMix.com and the EpicMix mobile apps.

• Who can race?

  Everyone from beginner to expert is welcome on the EpicMix Race Courses at 6 of our mountains: Vail, Beaver Creek, Breck, Keystone, Heavenly, and Northstar.

• How does the scoring work for EpicMix Racing?

  Every time you race we record your actual time. We adjust the time based upon your gender, age and discipline (skier, snowboarder, telemark, adaptive). We then compare that time to the time Lindsey Vonn would have had on the course that day and each racer gets a “seconds behind Lindsey” score for each race. For each racer, we award gold, bronze and silver medals based upon your “seconds behind Lindsey.” All of our leader boards are based upon your “seconds behind Lindsey,” which serves as comparable comparison for all of our guests.

• How can I qualify for the Lindsey Vonn Race Series?

  To qualify for the Lindsey Vonn Race Series you must race at least ten times during the 2012/2013 season. For everyone who qualifies we will look at their 10 best races during the season.  For each race we will calculate a score based upon their “seconds behind Lindsey.” The score will be set to 200 points if the racer ties Lindsey’s time for the course and will go down from there as their seconds behind Lindsey increases. The most a racer could earn for the 10-race Lindsey Vonn Race Series is 2,000 points.

• Will I get pins when I race?

  Yes. There are unique EpicMix Racing pins that will be awarded for special racing accomplishments. You can view all the pins at EpicMix.com or on the mobile apps.

• Will EpicMix Photos be available at race courses?

  Yes. EpicMix photographers will be at the 6 race courses to capture your racing memories.

• Is there a cost associated with EpicMix Racing?

  We will be charging to participate in EpicMix Racing much like we have in the past for other racing activities.  Prices are $8 for the first race of the year and $4 for each race there after.

• Will NASTAR still be open at your resorts?

  No. NASTAR will no longer be offered at Vail, Beaver Creek, Breck, and Keystone.

• What is EpicMix and how does it work?

  EpicMix is back—now with racing!

  EpicMix is a revolutionary technological advancement for the ski industry. With EpicMix, all your activity on the slopes is automatically captured and uploaded to your EpicMix dashboard. With a quick scan of your RF enabled pass our on-mountain photographers can take your picture and deliver it to your EpicMix account for free so you can share on Facebook and Twitter. You can buy the digital image online and a hi-res copy is yours forever. You can follow your days skied, track your vertical feet, see where you rode, earn EpicMix pins for your achievements, and collect points. All this is possible because of Radio Frequency scanners at the base of every lift, and RF technology built into every Vail Resorts season pass, and PEAKS card.

• What passes and lift tickets have EpicMix?

  All Vail Resorts RF enabled Season Passes, Epic Day lift tickets, and PEAKS cards are equipped with EpicMix and begin capturing stats automatically and seamlessly as soon as you hit the slopes.

• Is EpicMix free?

  Yes, EpicMix is free with every RF enabled season pass, Epic Day lift ticket, or PEAKS card at Vail, Beaver Creek, Breckenridge, Keystone, Heavenly, Northstar, and Kirkwood. Your stats automatically begin capturing as soon as you hit the slopes. View your accomplishments at EpicMix.com

• What resorts have EpicMix?

  EpicMix is available at all 7 of the Vail Resorts: Vail, Beaver Creek, Breckenridge, Keystone, Heavenly, Northstar and Kirkwood.

• How should I wear my pass?

  For the best results, wear your pass in a chest pocket or an arm pocket. Do not carry electronic devices or anything else with RF technology in the same location as your pass. This may interfere with the scan process.

• What steps are you taking to protect privacy of EpicMix users?

  EpicMix users may choose to utilize the privacy settings and sharing aspects of EpicMix. The privacy of our guests is of paramount importance and no information collected through EpicMix will be shared or made public unless a guest “opts in.” Guests can specifically choose to share their information through their Facebook and Twitter accounts. All information collected through EpicMix is subject to the Vail Resorts’ Online Privacy Policy. Children under age 14 may only participate in EpicMix if their parents choose to open an account for them. Children’s accounts will have limited features and a connection only to their parents account; no one else will be able to view their information.

• How do I set up my EpicMix account?

  To set up a new account, follow these steps:

  • Go to epicmix.com
  • Select the green “Join Now" button
  • Follow the the simple steps.

  Children under the age of 13 can now set up their own EpicMix account.  Parents will need to approve the child's access in an additional step.  Children's activity will never be shown to the public and can only be seen by the people in their family.

• Is EpicMix available for International Guests?

  Yes. International guests are able to participate in EpicMix.  Create an account by clicking the green 'Join Now' button at epicmix.com.  A pass number will need to be provided in order to create the account.

• If I have questions or need help logging in to EpicMix, where should I go?

  You can go to the customer service tab on the EpicMix Facebook site or email epicmix@vailresorts.com. If your question still is not answered, call our customer service department at 800.842.8062.

• Can I connect EpicMix with my social media accounts?

  Yes. You can connect EpicMix with your Facebook and Twitter accounts by going to your share and privacy settings within your account.

• How does EpicMix Photo work?

  EpicMix Photographers are available at Vail, Beaver Creek, Breckenridge, Keystone, Heavenly and Northstar to capture your on-mountain experience. The photos taken will automatically be uploaded to your EpicMix account. You may purchase your entire 2012-2013 season photos for just $30 at epicmix.com. These hi-res digital photos can then be downloaded to your computer.

  You can also share your photos without cost to Facebook and Twitter.

• How do I add a caption to a photo?

  To add a caption to your photo go to the detail view of the photo. Below the photo you can click the caption button and let everyone know how epic your day was.
  

• How do I share a photo?

  You can share the free professional photos on your Facebook and Twitter accounts. Adjust your share settings to either auto share or manual share and show the world your epic photos!

• How do I purchase my EpicMix photos?

  New this season, your entire 2012-2013 season photos can be purchased for just $30. After you've had your photo taken at our mountains you can view it and purchase it by logging into your account at EpicMix.com. These hi-res photos can be downloaded to your computer.  This must be completed from a computer - tablets and mobile devices are not supported.

• What will I receive when I download a photo?

  You will receive the hi-res digital copy of your EpicMix photo. The photo is yours to save and keep forever and you can download the image as many times as you'd like!

• Can I print my photo?

   Photos are available for purchase at the following locations.  Stop by during the day and our friendly staff can help you purchase photo prints on the spot!:

  1) Vail, Beaver Creek, Breckenridge, Keystone, Heavenly & Northstar:  Children’s Ski School pick up locations at the base of the mountain.  Did your child attend ski school?  Stop by the EpicMix photo stand outside of the Children’s Ski School at the end of the day to purchase an on-mountain photo of your child!

  2) Beaver Creek – The North Face store by the ice rink at Beaver Creek village.  5x7 and 8x10 prints are available for purchase.  Plus purchase unlimited digital high resolution images for $30!  All Images.  All Season.  All Resorts.

  3) Breckenridge - There are two EpicMix Photo locations at Breckenridge, in addition to the Children’s Ski School location.     

  - The Maggie at the base of the Quicksilver Chair at the base of Peak 9. 5x7 and 8x10 prints are available for purchase.  Plus purchase unlimited digital high resolution images for $30!  All Images.  All Season.  All Resorts. 

  - Ski Hill Grill at the base of Peak 8. 5x7 and 8x10 prints are available for purchase.  Plus purchase unlimited digital high resolution images for $30!  All Images.  All Season.  All Resorts. 

  4) Heavenly – The California Lodge at the California base.  5x7 and 8x10 prints are available for purchase.  Plus purchase unlimited digital high resolution images for $30!  All Images.  All Season.  All Resorts.

  Or, purchase the hi-res digital download of your photos through our site. These files can be taken to your favorite printing store or site. If you are taking these to a physical store, please use the letter below for permission to print a licensed photo.

• How do I receive a photo I purchased?

  Purchased photos will be downloaded immediately to your computer.

• How do I find a professional EpicMix photographer?

  Look for the EpicMix photographers dressed in green when you visit the mountain. They will be located in various places around the mountain and base areas.

• How do I find a missing photo?

  We understand that capturing your experience of a lifetime is important to you. Our free EpicMix Photo feature is brand new technology that is still being tested and improved as the season continues.
   
  If you are missing photos it may be due to the following reasons:

  The photo was out of focus
  The photo was over or under exposed
  The photo contained inappropriate content
  The photo was lost due to technical error

  If you are experiencing missing on-mountain photos from Epic Mix, please provide us with the following information in order for us to attempt to retrieve them for you: Please be sure to leave the questions on this form and place your details after the words in BOLD.

• What is the EpicMix Collage?

  EpicMix Collage feature that lets you capture all of your data from your visit. You can select what information is populated in your personal collage. Professional photos, pins, days skied, and much more can be included. Use EpicMix Collage to capture your experience on the mountain and share it on Facebook and Twitter.

• How do I see my stats?

  EpicMix will automatically start capturing your stats on your first day on the slopes. Once you have access to a computer or mobile phone, login to your online account to view your photos and accomplishments. If you do not have an online account, register now at EpicMix.com.
  

• How does Mix track my vertical feet?

  EpicMix calculates your vertical feet based on your lift rides on the mountain. It is based on the vertical feet of the lift you ride up.

• Will EpicMix track my vertical feet when I ski hike-to terrain?

  Our RF readers are located at the lifts. They are specifically designed to calculate the difference between the elevation of the top of the lift you got off and the elevation of the bottom of the lift you get on next.  Therefore, if you choose to hike up further the system will not recognize how far you hiked up and cannot calculate vertical feet you skied down.
  

  Kirkwood Mountain Resort has installed the world’s only remote EpicMix gantry. The gantry is located in the Covered Wagon area of the resort, along the southeastern-most boundary on the backside.  There are two custom pins explorers can unlock at the Covered Wagon gantry. The first is called “Pushing Boundaries” and awards the guest 200 points for reaching the gantry for the first time. The second is worth 250 points and is called “CW10.” It is awarded for visiting the gantry 10 times in one season.
  

• How do I earn pins?

  Pins are earned for your exploration of the mountain and are awarded for riding lifts and getting professional photos taken at all six resorts. We've added hundreds of new pins this season! Check out the entire list at EpicMix.com and select the EpicMix Pins tab.

• Is there a full list of pins I can earn?

  Yes! The entire list of pins will be available on the “EpicMix Pins” tab on EpicMix.com. You can search through the pins with the filter by resort, achievement, and type. Look for the list when the season starts.

• How do I get points?

  Points are awarded for earning EpicMix pins and gaining vertical feet.

• How do I gain levels?

  Levels are determined by the amount of points you collect and are a shorthand way of sharing and comparing your EpicMix status with friends and family. Get out there and explore the mountains!

• How does the leaderboard work?

  The EpicMix Leaderboard collects all the data from all skiers and snowboarders and compiles it into a listing of the top 100 leaders for that day.

  You can view your own stats as well as those who belong to your family by clicking on My Leaderboard within your dashboard. Compare your stats and see who is rocking the slopes!

• How do I see the lifts I rode?

  When you are in your “Dashboard” you can select the day that you are interested in viewing. Your activity feed will update to reflect your accomplishments including lift rides.

• How do I connect with friends/family on EpicMix?

  There are two ways to connect with people through EpicMix.

  1.        Family. This functionality is designed for more than just traditional families. This is a quick way to group family and friends to compare stats, pins, and photos with a single click. You can add a family member when you set up your personal account or at a later time of your choosing. If the person you’d like to add has a season pass or has an Epic Day card but has already registered on EpicMix you will need their Last Name, Zip Code and Date of Birth. If they have an Epic Day card but have not registered; you will also need the authentication code from the pass.

  To add a child (13 or younger) to your family follow the same directions as above, this will have to be done by an adult.

  There is no limit to the number of members within a family.

  2.        Friends. EpicMix will automatically connect you to all of your Facebook friends that have Public Social EpicMix accounts. You must have your EpicMix account set as Public Social as well. You can do so by logging in to EpicMix.com and clicking EpicMix Settings, Privacy Settings, then Public Social.

• How do I edit my data if it was not correctly captured?

  Simply go to your “Dashboard” and select the day in question. Click “View Lift Activity" to make any adjustments. Kids under the age of 13 cannot update their stats.

• What if my stats were not captured?

  We understand that there may be bugs with the system. If your data was not correctly captured you can edit your stats in “View Lift Activity.” You can also send us an email detailing your issue at epicmix@vailresorts.com or call 800.743.0242.

  To ensure an accurate scan at the lifts, wear your pass in a chest or arm pocket and keep it away from cell phones, cameras, or credit cards. It is best to keep it in a pocket by itself so nothing interferes with the RF chip.

• What are notifications?

  Notifications update you on your recent activity in your account such as new photos, pins earned, new level reached, and much more.
  

• I have feedback and/or comments, how do I submit?

  We would love to hear what you have to say! Visit our support center tab on our EpicMix facebook page or email us at: epicmix@vailresorts.com.

• Can I use EpicMix on my phone?

  Yes. EpicMix apps are available for the iPhone and Android. The EpicMix mobile site and mobile apps are compatible with all web-connected phones with an internet browser. EpicMix will automatically default to the proper mobile website for easy viewing. With EpicMix’s mobile site and mobile apps, you can view, track and share your stats anywhere and anytime, even when on the mountain. The Android app has a minimum requirement of OS 2.1.

• Does EpicMix have an iPhone and Android app?

  Yes! The new 2012/2013 apps will be ready and updated at the beginning of the season. If you had the app last year you will need to download it at the season start in order to get the updated version. Once you download it you will not need to download it again to get future updates.

  Please note, the Android app has a minimum requirement of OS 2.1.

  The mobile website will also be live at the beginning of the season. Be sure to view, track, and share your stats anywhere and anytime, even when on the mountain.

• Does EpicMix have an iPad app?

  No, not at this time. You can view the mobile website on the iPad or use the iPhone app on the iPhone.

• Can my kids participate in EpicMix?

  Yes! Kid’s stats will be automatically captured as long as their pass or ticket is RF enabled. A parent needs to assist in the EpicMix registration process to ensure privacy policies for the child's account. Please have pass numbers for the child and a parent on hand.

  Please note that children under the age of 13 cannot share via Facebook. Facebook is available for guests 14 years of age or older.

   

• Can a child under age 14 open an EpicMix account?

  Kids under the age of 13 can access their stats through a parent's account. A parent must add the child to the family in order to see a child's account. In setting up a child’s account, parents will only be able to enter a first name and select a fun, cartoon avatar for their child’s identity. Children's activity will never be shown to the public and can only be seen by the people in their family.
  

• Will my kid's information be shared on the web?

  Children’s access to EpicMix will be private and have limited features. Children’s accounts will not link to Facebook or Twitter and only that child’s immediate family will have access to share, or link to the child on EpicMix. Vail Resorts complies with COPPA, the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act, meaning that we will not collect information from children under the age of 13 without parental consent. 
  

   

• What is the Privacy Policy for EpicMix?

• What if I don’t want to participate in EpicMix?

  Guests who do not want to participate in EpicMix can choose to not activate their account. Their data will not be viewable or shareable if the account is not activated. Guests will also have the opportunity to disable the RF chip in their pass by visiting one of the following locations across our six mountain locations:

  Vail: Vail Village Pass Office, Lionshead Pass Office, Golden Peak Pass Office

  Beaver Creek:  BC Main Village Ticket Pass Office, BC Landing Ticket Office, Bachelor Gulch Ticket/Ski School Office in the Ritz, Arrowhead Ticket Office

  Breckenridge:  Quicksilver Ticket Office, Gondola Pass Office, Beaver Run Pass Office, Crystal Peak/Peak 8 Ticket Office

  Keystone:  River Run Pass Office, Mountain House Pass Office

  Heavenly:  California Base Area Pass Office, Nevada Base Area Pass Office, Gondola Base Area Pass Office

  Northstar: Season Pass Office at the Village at Northstar

• What information is stored on my RF enabled pass or lift ticket?

  We do not store any personally identifiable information on your RF Pass. The only information stored on RF Passes is a unique ID number that identifies your specific pass.
  

• Will you sell or share information captured through EpicMix with advertisers?

  No. Vail Resorts does not sell personally identifying information or other personal information about its guests to any advertiser or partner. Information collected by the EpicMix application will only be shared or made public when a guest chooses to do so.
